Key West - Day 10: We leave
February 23, 2006 by Joanne Brokaw
Day ten, we leave. It's 11 am and we're getting in that last hour of sun before we have to try and cram everything back into the suitcases and head home to the snowy north. I used about 1/10 of what I brought, and all of that stuff I threw in at the last minute. I'll pack lighter next time (she vows uselessly).
Yesterday Marie and I went to the Butterfly Conservatory again. It was even better the second time. The guy who gave us our souvenier butterflies, Sam, told us to check out the Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara Falls, because it's twice the size and really nice. He said to ask for Cheryl and tell her Sam said hello. Seems they went to Africa together. So Cheryl, Sam says hi.
Went out to dinner at the Hickory House last night. Very good. Stopped at the Purple Porpoise on the way home. Don't ask.
A couple of things to note about our last day: if you're spending a boatload of money to rent a convertable you really should drive with the top down; 3 glasses of wine is 2 1/2 too many for me; you can always spot a man dressed in drag; and that broiled fish you ordered last time you went out to dinner was caught by a fisherman, maybe named Ray, by hand, just like you saw it in "The Perfect Storm".
Paradise may not exist on earth, but this comes close.
