Shawn Lewis, Hyper Static Union
September 13, 2006 by Joanne Brokaw
I recently had a chance to chat with Shawn Lewis, vocalist and guitarist for RKT new band, Hyper Static Union, and asked him to share an amazing thing that God’s done for him or the band in the last few months.
Despite tours with Building 429, Caedmon’s Call, Bebo Norman, and Third Day (whose lead vocalist Mack Powell helped get HSU a record deal), Shawn has seen God’s hand in a much more personal way that highlights the real life struggles of music-missionaries.
“If you knew my wife,” he said, “the greatest thing that [God’s] done is convince her to move to Nashville.”
Most music fans don’t realize that their favorite Christian artists often have to uproot their families to move to Nashville, which is the hub of Christian music.
Relocating is “a huge transition for me,” Shawn adds, “but it’s a way bigger for her. It’s a huge sacrifice.”
I encourage you to keep not only your favorite Christian bands in prayer, but their families as well. They’re the silent members of the band who provide the foundation that allows musicians like HSU to take to the road to share the gospel through music.
And speaking of music, I give two thumbs up to HSU’s debut, Lifegiver, which is a fantastic mix of funk, jazz and rock. The band is even better live.
